Watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media works rooted in the landscapes, seasons, and stories of Northern Colorado.
View GalleryI'm Carolyn Meier Mahakian — a multidisciplinary artist, illustrator, and author based in Northern Colorado. I work in watercolor, ink, alcohol ink, acrylic, gouache, and mixed media, with a practice rooted in the landscapes, seasons, and quiet stories of the Colorado Front Range.
My paintings live at the intersection of the natural world and personal memory. Whether it's the trembling gold of aspens in fall, icy mountain peaks catching morning light, or a childhood moment preserved in layered fabric and color — each piece is an attempt to make the felt world visible.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Wells College (Aurora, NY, 1999) and my work has been exhibited in juried shows across the Boulder and Denver metro area and placed in public medical centers in Longmont, Colorado.
From 2012–2016 I also authored and illustrated four published books, including the children's titles Creatures A Plenty, It's Snowing at Emily's House, and On the Day You Were Born, and the juvenile fiction The Story of Sierra.
